Each man and boy uses the ash and oil mix to paint himself white or black and then is in turn decorated by another person, There are many different patterns but the crisscross and tiger spots seem to be the most common. Some men use hats with turkey feathers on it while the colorful hats with streamers seem to be more common. It is clear to me that the turkey feathered hats were the original style. All the while this is happening. the rest of the men in the company of the Centurions and captains are dancing in the yard. The captains and centurions meet and get ready for the days events.

The assembly marches to the town square where a mass is celebrated inside the church and the alter is disassembled in a flurry of motion. People take the palm fronds and cuchara floral displays home with them. There is a lot I do nót understand about this part of the ceremony. However it is clear that the crucifixion of Christ is imminent.
