The white huipil top worn in a number of villages has pleats on the poplin type and woven design in the loomed version, the belt color distinguishes each village. I purchased this huipil from a man from the village in 1975; it is still back strap woven and has distinctive designs woven into the sleeve. The belt was purchased on a recent trip in 2002 it is woven on a Spanish loom and then cut and folded in thirds to be worn. This color is typical of Betaza. The shawl is a bit coarse but still hand woven and might actually be hand spun. The macramé finish is similar to the finish on the stripped reboso from Yalalag.
