The Carnival Tepehua starts the Monday before Ash Wednesday after Ash Wednesday the festival takes a break and resumes the following Monday and finishes 3 days later with the fire dance . The various evil forces, Comanche’s, Devils, Coludos, Tisnados and Huehues have differing powers , with the Comanche’s the power force they are not generally attached by the other. The Tisnados are groups of men with there bodies covered with grease, oil and black ash they smudge almost all the others except the Comanche’s and the Huehues.

The Huehues are the recently departed and dance to Huasteca music day and night , while the other run and run around the town. Each type of character makes a different bone chilling noise.
