San Ambrosia, Huehuetla is on a very difficult road, the traditional costume there is a home made dress of commercial material with a crocheted slip. The Otomi women there make living embroidering napkins, tablecloths and other textiles. ©Robert E. Freund 3/6/2007

Simple indigenous dress

San Ambrosia is a isolated village located on a steep slope on the road leading out of San Gregorio toward Juntas Chicas. There simple indigenous dress is a solid color with pleats and a slip with a crocheted fringe. Many women here embroider napkins, tablecloths and tortilla cloths for resale in local markets. In order to reach this village I had to wait until March when the road was dry, it was still one of the most difficult roads I have been on. There was evidence of grading which was sorely needed ( 3/07). The men at the local governement office could not believe my Nissan Sentra SE had made it in.
