Chilapa, Guerrero has grown like so many towns in Guerrero. The Sunday market draws many thousands of people who come from the surrounding village to buy and sell their products. The town has gone through a transformation which saw the large palm industry shrink and almost die. This was caused by over harvesting the palm plants.
