Atlanca, Los Reyes, Veracruz, Mexico - this is my second trip to the los Reyes region of the Sierra Zongolica in Veracruz. When I returned to distribute the photos that I had taken in 2006, I found that one of the participants had passed away. Her family was very glad to receive the photos as they had no other photo of her.Atlanca is a large town with its own church preschool and primary and secondary schools. The costume continues to be in use in the older generations which is the black wrap skirt, handwoven belt, a blouse with short sleeves and a large lace collar.
The village elders were very responsive on the first trip and actually made an announcement over the town loudspeaker in Nahuatl for people to come and have their picture taken. This may sound strange but it actually occurs more often than not.
