Ixhuatlancillo, Veracruz is a Nahua speaking indigenous town. There are many women wearing traditional dress here. The distinct lace and ribbon blouse and skirt is complemented by a crocheted pettiskirt. Older women wear a black wrap skirt.

I visited here in 2002 during my initial trip to the Orizaba, Veracruz region. In many markets around Mexico the women from Ixhuatlancillo sell flowers and bamboo.I have been surprised to see them in Mexico City and in village markets in Oaxaca. They are known to be strong women with a true market spirit.
During my visit I noticed two different styles of dress, the younger women you see pictured here uses satin dress with appliquéd ribbons and lace. There is a petty skirt with macramé and or crocheting that extends below the dress. Some older women wear a black wrap skirt and also used the distinctive blouse with appliquéd lace and ribbons
