San Mateo Tlacoxcalco is a small Nahua village where a collective of women is rescuing the traditional embroidery. There are two types of blouses worn in town by the elderly Nahua women. The first is a everyday blouse and a heavily embroidered blouse. Bob Freund 7/20/06

This wonderful village is located about a twenty minute ride outside of Chilac. What is interesting is that the embroidery is completely different from Chilac. Pictured here is Regina Lima Ramirez. I met her three times, each time she had on a different blouse. There is a crafts collective in town, which she is a member. They are trying to rescue the traditional embroidery skill of the village. In the third photo they are looking at some photos I brought back after the first visit.
