Santiago Aquismon, a Huasteca town, located in the State of San Luis Potosi. The village still maintains its language and to some degree its textile tradition. During the towns Saint Day celebration their Quechquemitl and embroidered bag were very much in use. During a baptism ceremony a unique "papoose" to carry kids was universally used. There are at least two active embroidery groups with over 150 embroiderers. Bob Freund 8/8/2004 For more information contact: info@mexicantextiles.com

Aquismons Saint is Santiago, this photos is taken at a mass Aug 25 in his honor. During the festival there are all sorts of races and a rodeo, dances and music. The town is clean and seemed orderly.

What are these people looking at?

This was new to me, the balloon is filled with air and then a candle is light inside to continue filling it with hot air. These balloons travel an amazing distance.
Aquismon_4a
This balloon stayed aloft at least 20 minutes until it was out of site over top of the Sierra Madre Mountains behind the town.

Almost invisible now these balloons we a big hit for every one there.

They sometimes catch on fire if the wind tips them too much.
