San Juan Ejido is a town where many people are dedicated beaded blouses. A few people told me that it was not an Amusgo town; however the few houses I visited were Amusgo. Bob Freund 4/2/2005 Return to Amusgo home page For More information contact: info@mexicantextiles.com

This town is right outside of Ometepec and is the central place for beaded blouse commercialization. In earlier version of the web site I classified these blouses as from Ometepec, which isn’t wrong but I believe that is more accurate to place them here. The sub contracting of the bead work goes to all the different villages on the Amusgo region. There are four blouses in the collection. There are many subtle differences on the bead work including glass verses plastic beads, size and clarity of the beads and form, tube or round. There is a video that shows various types of techniques of weaving, embroidery and bead work being done in Zacualpan. |
