San Pedro Arriba is located above San Pedro Abajo, if you know Spanish that all makes sense. The town is on the road to the Otomi Ceremonial center and there are many rug vendors who have store fronts open on the weekends. As I wandered from vendor to vendor, I was finally sent to visit with Felicitas Gomez, who is active in indigenous movements. She has a rug weaving business and also is interested in conserving the traditional Otomi dress. Her niece was nice enough to pose for some pictures. She is wearing a "coton" which is the old style huipil. Apparently this style huipil is still used by some older women in town. On the bottom row the niece and Felicitas are wearing the older and current costume; the reboso’s can be worn in so many ways. The first picture is a pattern from a carpet and the second is a rug weaving loom.
